I would not have had the positive pregnancy or birth I did without my midwife's thorough and caring attention. When I was scared about miscarriage during a time in the first trimester, my midwife helped me look at options for some reassurance and to hold possibilities of what may be true close and almost in a sacred way. When I received troubling news about a blood test from my PCP, my midwife was right there with me to help me understand what was going on. She always took the time to help me feel safe, comfortable, and like there were no questions off limits. Time expanded like a big hug when I was in sessions with my midwife. She helped me hone in on my intuition, met my family when we were living in multiple places, and helped remind me how special and unique this time was.

Home visits felt so amazing and so human and SO healing at such a raw, exciting, expansive time. To be seen in our nest and to be met with a beautiful pot of sitz bath herbs and to watch my little baby’s toes as he was weighed by midwife's loving hands felt so good. My partner and I were able to process how things were feeling, were guided by her gentle and curious questions, and we enjoyed the medicine of laughter, as well. If anyone asked me whether to have a prenatal and postpartum midwife at Harambee, I would wholeheartedly say yes! Do it! Your heart will beat more fully if you do. If my baby can be even one ounce as loving and giving and nurturing to other humans as my midwife is, I will count myself lucky.
